Barcelona is reportedly considering a free transfer for Thomas Partey in 2025.

According to the Spanish publication Relevo, Barcelona has identified Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey as a potential target for the summer transfer window in 2025.

The La Liga giants may pursue the Ghanaian midfielder if they find themselves needing to offload Frenkie de Jong next summer.

They recognize that Partey’s situation at Arsenal is uncertain, with his contract set to expire at the end of June 2025.

As of now, there have been no reports indicating that Arsenal has initiated discussions with the 31-year-old’s representatives regarding a contract extension.

If Arsenal does not secure a new deal for him by January 2025, Partey will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona or any other club.

This season, Partey has made nine appearances for Mikel Arteta’s team, contributing a crucial goal in their victory against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Notably, Thomas Partey has seen an increase in his playing time this season, starting every Premier League match thus far.

Arsenal has enjoyed a strong start to the season, remaining one of only two Premier League teams unbeaten after the first seven games.

Additionally, they achieved a notable victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League, demonstrating their competitive form and attracting the interest of top clubs across Europe.

Arsenal’s contract situation with Thomas Partey has drawn interest from Barcelona, as reported by the Spanish outlet Sport.

The Catalan club is considering a pre-contract agreement in January, which would allow Partey to leave Arsenal for free when his contract concludes in June 2025.

Barcelona has long been a fan of Partey, having observed his capabilities during his tenure at Atletico Madrid, where he faced them numerous times.

While Partey has been a dependable player for Arsenal when fit, his playing time has been hampered by injuries in the past. Nevertheless, he consistently performs well when on the field.

However, it may be time for Arsenal to reassess their options. Partey has shown signs of declining pace, and concerns about his fitness persist due to his injury history.

Should Arsenal decide to move on from Partey, they can concentrate on their robust midfield lineup.

The acquisition of Mikel Merino during the summer transfer window positions him as a suitable partner for Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard when all are available.

This situation makes Partey somewhat redundant in the current squad. Although he is experiencing an increase in playing time at the moment, this trend may not continue throughout the season.

From Barcelona’s viewpoint, securing Partey would be a significant achievement.

Given their well-documented financial struggles, they may need to pursue cost-effective transfers like this one.

Moreover, Partey has proven himself in La Liga and possesses the ability to compete at the highest level, which aligns with the expectations for players under Hansi Flick.

Barcelona is poised for a strong season in La Liga, having made an impressive start and looking forward to resuming league play after the international break.
