Liverpool: Carragher advises Slot on a behavior to avoid, drawing a comparison to Klopp.

Jamie Carragher has shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s beginning to the 2024/25 season under Arne Slot, suggesting that there is one practice the Dutch manager “should reconsider.”

Slot took over at Anfield during the summer, succeeding Jurgen Klopp, and has led the team to an impressive start this season.

Liverpool has secured victories in all three of their initial Premier League matches, culminating in a significant 3-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford just before the international break.

The team could have achieved an even larger margin of victory, having eased off in the final moments of the match.

Following the game, Slot was candid during his appearance on Sky Sports, detailing his analysis of Liverpool’s performance against Manchester United.

Carragher found it “fascinating” to hear Slot’s insights, drawing a comparison between him and Klopp.

“It’s fascinating to listen to him,” Carragher remarked on The Overlap. “I had a conversation with him after his debut match.

He consistently provides valuable tactical insights, while Jurgen [Klopp] would often focus on the emotional aspects. Klopp’s comments always had a certain depth.”

Ian Wright interjected, “Perhaps he should reconsider that approach, as he’s revealing too much.”

Carragher responded, “I hope he continues to do so from Liverpool’s perspective.

“I wonder if this is characteristic of the Dutch style, being proactive and open in sharing their views. When you pose a question, they readily provide an answer, which is beneficial for us.”

Each time I observe Liverpool play, what stands out to me is the variability in their performance; no two matches are identical.

“There’s always a unique element in every game. For instance, after my discussion with him regarding the full-backs’ positioning, I noticed a different approach in the match against Ipswich.

Trent’s role shifted slightly against Brentford, and there were further adjustments in the game against Manchester United.”

He continued, “While there is a consistent style of play, there are subtle modifications in each match.

During pre-season, when Liverpool faced Manchester United, he pointed out the differences compared to the previous season.”

“I find it intriguing to hear Slot’s insights and the extent of information he plans to share moving forward. From Liverpool’s perspective, I would advise him to temper that a bit.”

This season, Slot has effectively maximized Mo Salah’s potential, although there are rumors of a transfer to the Saudi Pro League as his contract nears its end next year.

Nevertheless, Carragher believes Liverpool will retain the Egyptian star.

“I doubt this will be his final year. Mo Salah reminds me of (Cristiano) Ronaldo,” he shared on The Gary Neville Podcast.

“Many footballers consider 35 as the retirement age, but I believe Mo Salah envisions playing into his late 30s before slowing down.”

“He aims to break every possible record, whether in the Premier League or with Liverpool.”

“He understands his significance, and I find it hard to imagine Mo Salah moving to the Saudi League next season. He is performing exceptionally well at one of the world’s premier clubs.”

“While there are numerous wingers with more accolades, few can match his quality and goal-scoring record.”

“When you think of Ronaldo at United, I believe Salah ranks among the best wingers we’ve seen in the Premier League.”
