Arsenal have submitted their initial bid to sign a player who is on the verge of joining Mikel Arteta’s team.

Two days ago, Sport reported that Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino is on the brink of moving to Arsenal.

The midfielder has just one year remaining on his contract and has not yet agreed to an extension. Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has stated that they are willing to sell him this summer if he requests a transfer.

Reports from the UK on Wednesday suggested that the 28-year-old would be a great fit for Arsenal, with other sources mentioning a verbal offer from the Gunners.

Local outlet Noticias de Gipuzkoa, close to the La Liga club, have echoed these reports and offered their own analysis on the situation.

A previous article from the same publication indicated that Mikel Arteta’s team would prioritize the Spain international after securing Riccardo Calafiori’s transfer.

Earlier this week, Calafiori finalized his move to the Emirates, and Arsenal is now focused on acquiring the Euro 2024 champion.

Insider sources have revealed to the publication that Arsenal has submitted an initial bid exceeding €30 million to Real Sociedad.

According to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, the north London club is “very close to signing” Merino, suggesting that their offer is likely to be accepted by Real Sociedad.

Should this transfer materialize, Arsenal will need a suitable replacement for Partey, with Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino prominently on their list.

The Spain international, who showcased his talent at Euro 2024, could be available for as little as £25 million, given that his contract expires next year.
