Arsenal’s next signing deal details disclosed by Fabrizio Romano including fee and final obstacle.

Fabrizio Romano unveils fee and final obstacle for Arsenal’s next signing as deal is agreed upon.

Arsenal have successfully negotiated a deal with Bologna for Riccardo Calafiori following a significant development.

The agreement marks a crucial step towards bringing the player to England, with only one obstacle remaining – an obstacle that is currently out of their hands.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal’s efforts to secure Calafiori appeared to hit a roadblock recently, but a breakthrough has now been achieved in discussions between the two clubs.

The Gunners have managed to reach an agreement on a transfer fee for the talented defender, who impressed for Italy during Euro 2024 before their premature exit.

Romano reported that Arsenal is prepared to pay €40m for Calafiori, along with €5m in potential add-ons. This translates to approximately £33.7m upfront and £37.9m in total.

Furthermore, it has been disclosed that Arsenal will grant Bologna a sell-on clause for the 22-year-old. However, negotiations with his former club, Basel, are causing a delay in finalizing the agreement.

Notably, Bologna acquired Calafiori just last year, repatriating him from Switzerland for €4m. As part of the transfer, a 50% sell-on clause for Basel was included.

It may not come as a shock, as a €20m windfall would be among the largest fees Basel has ever received for a player – and this could potentially happen for a player they are not currently looking to sell.

Calafiori has reached an agreement with Arsenal – how will Arteta incorporate him into the team?

The only obstacle now is the stalemate delaying Calafiori’s transfer to Arsenal.

The left-footed player, who initially played as a full-back in Roma’s academy, has already finalized personal terms with the Premier League side.

Calafiori is open to signing a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium, which would last until 2029.

His move to Arsenal is contingent on passing a medical examination, but the current focus is on resolving the details of the deal between Bologna and Basel.

If Calafiori does join Arsenal, he will be their second signing of the summer, but the first new addition, as their only previous deal was to make David Raya’s loan permanent.

It remains to be seen what Mikel Arteta’s plans are for the 22-year-old. Last season, the Arsenal manager had a strong centre-back partnership with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arteta may opt to utilize Calafiori in his natural left-back position, given the limited options available.

However, due to his improved skills, Calafiori could potentially take on a similar role to Benjamin White on the right side for Arsenal, rather than reverting to his previous style of play.

Arteta may soon be able to implement more detailed tactical strategies, but for now, we must wait in anticipation for Bologna and Basel to resolve their stalemate.
