Liverpool has officially expressed their interest in the highly talented Arne Slot, as a recent report highlights their main competitor in the transfer race.

Liverpool has officially expressed their interest in Teun Koopmeiners, a player favored by Arne Slot, according to a recent report.

This move signifies the club’s first step towards potentially signing the talented star. Arne Slot, who will be taking over as Liverpool’s head coach this summer, is known for his ambitious nature and believes he can make a significant impact in the Premier League, despite his previous experience solely in the Eredivisie.

As part of the restructuring within Liverpool’s hierarchy, Slot will assume the role of head coach, while the final decision on transfers will rest with new sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group CEO Michael Edwards.

Nevertheless, Slot has the ability to suggest players whom he believes will seamlessly integrate into his fresh system at Liverpool.

The coach, aged 45, is keen on acquiring a left-footed centre-back, and is currently considering Goncalo Inacio and Willian Pacho as potential options.

Furthermore, Slot is enthusiastic about Liverpool securing the services of Koopmeiners, a talented midfielder who has made a name for himself as one of Atalanta’s standout performers in recent times.

Although Ben Jacobs previously stated that Koopmeiners is not a definite target for Liverpool, it seems that the Reds have had a significant change of heart.

Football Insider reports that Liverpool have taken their first step towards signing the talented Dutch player by expressing their interest in him.

Liverpool officials have informed Koopmeiners’ agent that they are eager to reach an agreement this summer, provided that Atalanta is willing to consider reasonable offers.

Previous reports suggested that Atalanta would be willing to sell the midfielder if a bid of €60 million (£52m) is made, a price that Liverpool can afford.

However, Liverpool is not currently the frontrunner in the race to secure the attacking midfielder’s signature. Juventus, Atalanta’s Italian rivals, have made significant progress in their pursuit of the player and are currently leading the charge.

Now, it is up to Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp to disrupt Juventus’ plans and persuade the 26-year-old to make the switch to Merseyside.

Liverpool scouts were highly impressed by Koopmeiners’ performance during Atalanta’s victory over the Reds in the Europa League quarter-finals last month.

Slot is already familiar with Koopmeiners, having previously coached him at AZ Alkmaar and appointing him as the club captain for the Netherlands national team.
