David Raya has expressed his commitment to improving after his error against Tottenham, promising to take lessons from the incident.

Arsenal’s goalkeeper gifted Spurs an opportunity to get back into the game with a costly mistake during the north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is determined to rectify his errors and learn from them, following his costly mistake that allowed Spurs to make a comeback in the recent north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

During the first half, the Gunners had a commanding three-goal advantage, with Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz both finding the back of the net, in addition to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s own goal in the 15th minute.

However, Raya’s blunder in the remaining 30 minutes gifted Spurs an opportunity, as he carelessly chipped the ball straight to Cristian Romero, who capitalized on the chance from the edge of the box, providing the hosts with a glimmer of hope.

Son Heung-min converted the penalty to create a tense finale, following Declan Rice’s foul on Ben Davies in the box. Despite a late surge from the opposition, Arsenal managed to maintain their slim lead and emerged victorious with a 3-2 scoreline.

The outcome added pressure on Manchester City before their upcoming match against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Pep Guardiola’s team responded effectively, narrowing the gap to just one point behind the league leaders.

Last season’s treble champions have a game in hand compared to Arsenal, as they prepare to face Wolves, currently in 11th place, at the Etihad in the next round.

During the post-match press conference, Arsenal’s head coach Mikel Arteta supported Raya following his mistake in the second half and commended the goalkeeper for his exceptional response to the error.

Arteta addressed reporters by stating, “It’s a part of the game, I don’t agree with it, I don’t agree with the tactics we used at that moment and the direction of the ball.

Following that, mistakes can happen, misjudging the situation, attempting a pass that doesn’t work out, and being uncertain. The opponents capitalized on that.

The penalty is another rule in the box that should be avoided. It’s all part of football.

What I admire is that David makes a mistake, but then he lifts Gabriel Magalhaes up – which is quite impressive! – and he performed exceptionally well in the final 20 to 25 minutes of the match.

This is what I appreciate about our players.

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Raya emphasized that errors are a natural part of football but assured Arsenal supporters that he would grow from the situation.

“I have gained knowledge from my mistakes. Making mistakes is essential for learning. It’s a common occurrence in football, everyone makes mistakes,” Raya stated.

“However, when a goalkeeper makes a mistake, it usually results in a goal and receives more attention compared to a striker missing an easy chance.”

“It’s all part of football and you develop from it, that’s the key takeaway. You simply learn from your errors.”

Ian Wright was unsympathetic towards Raya as he discussed the Spaniard’s impulsive action in the Premier League Productions studio, underscoring how the risky decision could have had serious consequences for Arsenal.

The legendary ex-Arsenal striker commended the team for their control, particularly after Tottenham’s comeback.

He praised their journey to this stage, emphasizing the importance of avoiding rash decisions like the goalkeeper’s mistake. Additionally, he highlighted the need for caution in situations like the penalty given away by Declan Rice.
