Next Liverpool manager: Amorim wants €100m goal machine as agent…
Liverpool have been given a reason to be filled with anticipation if they secure Ruben Amorim as their next manager due to his attacking style of football. Meanwhile, there are increasing reports that a €100m striker will be the first signing of his tenure at Anfield.
The Reds are set to play what might be their final European match under the leadership of the charismatic Jurgen Klopp in Bergamo on Thursday evening. They require another remarkable comeback in order to keep their hopes alive in the Europa League. After suffering a 3-0 defeat to Atalanta at Anfield in the first leg, Liverpool will need a strong start in Italy if they are to have any chance of progressing to the semi-finals at the expense of the Serie A side.
An exit at the quarter-finals stage would be a significant setback for England’s aspirations of securing another Champions League spot. With Arsenal and Manchester City already eliminated from the Champions League, and West Ham facing an uphill battle of their own, the Premier League could potentially have only one representative (Aston Villa) in the final four of any European competition this season.
Despite the negative impact on England’s UEFA coefficients table, Liverpool is currently unconcerned about it as they focus on enjoying their final European campaign under Klopp’s leadership.
Behind the scenes, there is a frantic effort to secure the best possible successor to Klopp for the upcoming season. This responsibility falls on the shoulders of Michael Edwards, the CEO of football, who is being generously compensated to ensure that Liverpool’s fortunes do not take a major hit once Klopp departs.
Liverpool has received assurances regarding Ruben Amorim’s preferred playing style. Although there has been a setback with Xabi Alonso, there is optimism that Sporting Lisbon coach Amorim will accept the position.
According to TEAMtalk, it has been revealed that Amorim has been offered a three-year deal by Edwards to succeed Klopp, a proposal that the Sporting CP coach is keen to accept. Reports suggest that Amorim is edging closer to a move to Merseyside, with discussions progressing to the next level.
It has been reported that the Portuguese coach has provided Edwards with a list of five attacking players he would like to sign. With Amorim’s impressive win percentage of 70.97% and his attractive style of play, fans are getting excited about the possibility of him moving to Anfield.
Pundit Micah Richards, speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, is confident that Liverpool will enjoy attacking football under Amorim’s management.
Richards believes that Amorim’s tactical prowess and intelligence make him a good fit for Liverpool. He highlights Amorim’s attacking style of play and acknowledges his evolution as a manager, particularly during his time at Braga.
However, there remains a question mark regarding whether he can succeed in the Premier League at such an early stage. Despite this uncertainty, Liverpool fans have expressed their admiration for Amorim’s footballing philosophy.
Meanwhile, there are rumors circulating that Amorim is eager to sign some of his Sporting players for Liverpool if the chance presents itself in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Liverpool will have to pay approximately €10m (£8.5m) in compensation to secure the services of the 39-year-old. However, if they wish to sign the highly sought-after Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, they will need to invest a significantly larger sum of money.
Gyokeres has been in exceptional form, scoring an impressive 36 goals in 43 games for Sporting since joining from Coventry last summer. As a result, top clubs such as Chelsea, Juventus, and particularly Arsenal, have expressed interest in acquiring his talents. Despite Sporting’s insistence on a €100m (£85.5m) release clause in his contract, it appears that this hefty fee will not deter the Gunners from pursuing a potential transfer.
However, there is a strong assertion that Amorim is keen on bringing the striker to Anfield this summer and has requested Edwards to finance the 25-year-old’s buyout clause as part of his own transfer to Merseyside.
The potential transfer to Liverpool is one that the player’s agent is taking seriously.
“It’s not surprising that Rúben is being linked to Liverpool, it’s expected. His performance is top-notch, which is what clubs are seeking,” Gyökeres’ representative Hasan Cetinkaya stated to A Bola.
“Yes, it might be more challenging for Viktor to remain if Ruben Amorim departs Sporting because Viktor joined precisely because of Ruben.
“When we first met, I told Rúben: ‘Here’s my player, he joined Sporting because of you’.”
There is a high demand for Gyokeres
Cetinkaya further mentioned: “Last summer, there were eight clubs highly interested in Viktor. They all offered Coventry more than Sporting, they all offered Viktor more, they all paid a higher agent commission.
“I brought him to Sporting due to Ruben Amorim, knowing his coaching style and his impact on players. I selected Ruben because he is a coach of a different caliber.”
All signs point towards Gyokeres potentially moving to Anfield if Amorim’s transfer goes through.
It appears that if Amorim moves to Anfield, Gyokeres may also follow suit if given the opportunity. This potential transfer could result in a significant profit for Sporting, who initially signed Amorim for €20m last summer. Additionally, Coventry is entitled to receive 10% to 15% of any future sale, potentially earning them a minimum of €10m if his buyout clause is activated.
Amorim is currently under contract with Sporting until summer 2028 and has contributed 16 assists this season. This means that he has been involved in a goal every 0.8 appearances for the team.
Considering his abilities, Amorim seems well-prepared to score goals in the Premier League. However, if Liverpool were to sign him, it could potentially disrupt Darwin Nunez’s position as the main striker, as both players operate in the No 9 role.
