Another contender has turned down the opportunity to become the next Liverpool manager, adding to the list of high-profile candidates who will not be making the move. Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Steve McManaman has highlighted the major challenges that the new frontrunner will face at Anfield.

With Jurgen Klopp set to leave this summer, a new era is on the horizon for Liverpool. The renowned German manager will take a break before deciding on his next managerial venture. Klopp has already made it clear that he will only manage Liverpool in England, as a testament to his loyalty and respect for the club.

However, the focus for Liverpool fans now shifts to who will fill Klopp’s shoes on the touchline. Xabi Alonso quickly emerged as a top contender for the role once news of Klopp’s departure spread. Reports suggest that Liverpool were willing to offer their former midfielder a three-year contract.

Alonso has decided to extend his stay at Bayer Leverkusen for another year. He led the team to their first Bundesliga title and they are still in contention for the DFB Pokal and Europa League trophies.

Liverpool is now looking at other options with Alonso out of the picture. One of the names being mentioned as a possible replacement for Klopp is Inter Milan’s manager, Simone Inzaghi. Reports from The Athletic suggest that Inzaghi is a candidate Liverpool is considering.

Inzaghi successfully guided Inter to the Champions League final last season and they are close to securing the Serie A title this season. Inter currently holds a significant 14-point lead over AC Milan with only six games left to play.

However, as per Inter chairman Steven Zhang, it has been confirmed that Inzaghi will not be making a move to Anfield.

Zhang, in a statement quoted by Fabrizio Romano, expressed his certainty about their continued collaboration, emphasizing Inzaghi’s excellence as a coach and his integral role in their project.

With both Alonso and Inzaghi staying with Inter, Liverpool’s interest in Ruben Amorim as their new No 1 candidate is expected to grow stronger. McManaman has also voiced concerns regarding Amorim.

The 39-year-old coach is likely to receive permission to depart from Lisbon this summer, and his exit clause at Sporting includes three tiers, with the one relevant to Liverpool valued at just €10m/£8.6m.

Amorim is widely recognized as one of the most esteemed young managers in the sport, having already achieved five significant accolades during his tenures at Braga and Sporting.

Furthermore, he has managed to work wonders at Sporting despite frequently witnessing the departure of his top players, including Pedro Porro, Nuno Mendes, Manuel Ugarte, Joao Palhinha, and Matheus Nunes.

Despite the notable exodus of key figures, Amorim has guided his Sporting team to the brink of securing a domestic double in Portugal this season.

However, former winger Steve McManaman suggests that the greatest challenge he will face is replicating the same level of spirit and connection that the highly charismatic Klopp has fostered during his tenure at Liverpool.

In an interview with the Mirror, McManaman expressed his admiration for the reputation of a certain individual in Portugal.

According to him, this person played a crucial role in securing the title for Sporting and they are currently putting up a strong fight to defend it this year. McManaman emphasized that Sporting is a significant club, but Liverpool operates on a whole different level.

Acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead for the next person who takes charge, McManaman mentioned that the behind-the-scenes team of number-crunchers and data specialists will be diligently working on their analysis.

He further praised Liverpool, stating that the club is currently in an excellent position. With the exception of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, McManaman believes that practically everyone else in the team has their future secured.
