Ivan Toney has disclosed the conversation he had with Mikel Arteta following the Arsenal vs Brentford match.
The Gunners remain keen on acquiring Toney’s services, prioritizing him over Gabriel Jesus as their striker. However, Arsenal is unwilling to meet Brentford’s £80 million asking price, considering the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

The club from north London first looked into the option of bringing in Toney during the January transfer window. Despite their efforts, negotiations with Brentford did not materialize as Arsenal aimed to steer clear of any potential violations of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations (PSR).
According to The Mirror, Arsenal has compiled a shortlist of potential reinforcements for their attack at the end of the season.
This list includes Ivan Toney, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP. While Arsenal has been monitoring Gyokeres and Sesko throughout the season, Toney has not been their top priority. However, Arsenal appreciates Toney’s physical presence and clinical finishing.
Additionally, Toney’s excellent fitness record is another reason why Arsenal remains interested in his transfer, especially considering Jesus’ injury issues. Arteta has given Toney limited playing time this Premier League season, with only 1,125 minutes out of a possible 2,430.
Arsenal’s management also admires Toney for his footballing intelligence and his ability to connect Brentford’s game as a captain. It seems that Toney’s potential departure from the Gtech Community Stadium is being closely watched by other clubs such as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
