Dodds previously held this position between Tony Mowbray’s departure and Beale’s appointment, achieving victories in both games during that period. However, the team has struggled in his current stint, losing three consecutive matches since Beale’s exit.

Various individuals have been mentioned in discussions regarding the Sunderland manager position. According to the Sunderland Echo, Will Still, the head of Stade de Reims, caught the attention of the Black Cats after Mowbray’s departure. Additionally, a local journalist also brought up the possibility of Roy Keane, the former captain of Manchester United, being considered for the role. Keane has responded to this suggestion.

According to BBC Radio Newcastle’s Nick Barnes, who spoke on Total Sport, Keane has been actively putting himself forward to clubs with managerial vacancies. Barnes also mentioned that another former Black Cats boss is being considered.

“There have been several names thrown into consideration. We are aware of Alex Neil’s interest, as he is currently making a strong effort to win over Sunderland.

“Roy Keane has been vocal about his willingness to return, although I believe it would depend on the ownership model. If the ownership situation was suitable, I could envision him coming back, but I don’t think he would under the current ownership.”

Barnes mentioned that both Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Scott Parker have expressed their interest in the position. There are several candidates being considered, but we will have to wait and see. If the club was considering Will Still in December/January, it is likely that they will still be looking for a coach with similar qualities. A lot will depend on what happens in the summer, particularly with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and whether he remains at the club.

“Obviously, it seems like he will stay, but in football, you never know. It remains to be seen if there will be more funds available for the head coach and if they will be more flexible in terms of signing experienced players.”
