In a significant development, the New Orleans Saints have set their sights on Klint Kubiak, the passing game specialist for the San Francisco 49ers, to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy.

According to reliable sources, the Saints are actively pursuing Kubiak for the role and are looking to finalize the deal after he concludes his coaching duties with the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

This potential hiring showcases the Saints’ commitment to bolstering their offensive play-calling capabilities for the upcoming 2023-24 postseason.

Klint Kubiak is a strong contender for the offensive coordinator position. Kubiak, who played safety at Colorado State from 2005 to 2009, quickly transitioned into coaching after his college career.

He began as an offensive quality control coach at Texas A&M, where he had the opportunity to work with notable figures like Kliff Kingsbury and Johnny Manziel, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2012. Kubiak then moved on to the Minnesota Vikings, where he gained valuable experience working alongside Bill Musgrave and Norv Turner for two seasons.

After a brief return to college football with the Kansas Jayhawks, Kubiak reunited with his father in Denver, spending three seasons as an offensive assistant before returning to the Vikings.

Klint Kubiak, the younger Kubiak, served as the quarterbacks coach from 2019 to 2020 before assuming the role of offensive coordinator in 2021.

The Minnesota Vikings concluded the season with an average of 25.0 points per game, ranking 14th in the NFL. Quarterback Kirk Cousins had an impressive performance, throwing for 4,221 yards and 33 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

Additionally, star running back Dalvin Cook rushed for 1,159 yards and six touchdowns on 249 carries. Following that season, Kubiak returned to the Denver Broncos, where he took on play-calling responsibilities amidst the team’s offensive struggles.

Currently, Kubiak is serving as the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. The team is gearing up to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Quarterback Brock Purdy showcased exceptional skills during the regular season, leading the league in touchdown percentage, yards per attempt, rating, and yards per completion.

Despite their strong defense, the New Orleans Saints had a disappointing season in 2024, finishing with a record of 9-8 and missing out on the playoffs. Despite the acquisition of quarterback Derek Carr, who battled through multiple injuries but managed to play in all 17 games, the Saints couldn’t secure a postseason spot.

Carr had a decent season, throwing for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, while the team performed well in passing yards, touchdowns, and net yards per attempt. However, their rushing game struggled, averaging just 3.6 yards per attempt, which was the second-worst in the NFL. Despite their defensive prowess, allowing only 19.2 points per game, the Saints couldn’t overcome their offensive shortcomings and fell short of their playoff aspirations.
