Liverpool have initiated discussions regarding the potential acquisition of a highly sought-after player valued at £60 million. However, there is a possibility that Manchester City could disrupt this transfer, as per reports.

According to a report from Bolavip, Liverpool is currently engaged in negotiations to secure the services of Alan Varela, a highly sought-after Argentine defensive midfielder.

However, their pursuit may face a potential obstacle as Manchester City has also expressed interest in the player.

According to the report, Liverpool have reportedly made initial contact with Porto about a possible transfer at the conclusion of the season. However, Manchester City has also shown interest in the talented South American player.

The 22-year-old has proven himself as a crucial asset for the Portuguese club, capturing the attention of both Premier League teams. The report further states that Varela’s contract includes a release clause of €70m (£60m), making it intriguing to observe whether Liverpool or City are willing to meet such a hefty price tag for his services.

Last summer, the Reds had made plans to invest a significant sum of money in acquiring Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. However, their attempts to secure the signings of these two players were unsuccessful, as both ended up joining Chelsea. It is widely known that Liverpool still have a pressing need to bring in a top-quality defensive midfielder.

By bringing in Varela, Liverpool would provide Alexis Mac Allister with the opportunity to operate in his preferred position, thereby bolstering the team’s midfield.

Varela possesses the skills to disrupt attacking plays and regain possession for his team. His inclusion would introduce a fresh dynamic to Liverpool’s midfield and enhance their defensive capabilities.

Varela possesses the necessary physicality and technical skills to thrive in English football, making him a suitable addition to Liverpool. Joining the club would undoubtedly be a significant advancement in his career, as he would have the opportunity to play for one of the most prominent clubs in England. Additionally, working under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, a world-class manager, would further enhance his development.

Similarly, a move to Manchester City would also present an enticing prospect for the young player. The club has a proven track record of competing for major honors, and the guidance of Pep Guardiola could contribute to Varela’s continued improvement.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City possess the financial means to meet the reported £60m release clause. However, the outcome of this situation remains uncertain. It is worth noting that Manchester City may potentially part ways with Kalvin Philips at the end of the season, making Varela an excellent replacement option.
